I had myself a little fall vacation! After moving to the east coast my goal has been to explore more of the area, all along the coast. I have little experience with this side of the United States and I plan to take full advantage of it during my living arrangement while I am still on this side. So I decided to go visit a dear friend for the weekend in Maryland!
This was the perfect time of the year to visit, not too cold not too warm, but the leaves were still changing, just enough for me to get a pretty peak at what fall has to bring. That is something I have not gotten to see in three years.
My friend Nicole lives in Baltimore, somewhere that I think gets a bad stigma sometimes, but in actuality has so many fun things to offer and is diverse, providing both city and beautiful countryside .
We actually drove to Virginia the first day. I got to go to this beautiful national park on the state line of Maryland and Virginia called Great Falls National Park. This was my favorite part of the trip. It was about a two hour drive but so worth it. It was a perfect day and we spent the morning exploring all the park has to offer. It was just the two of us, my friend Nicole and I. We wanted to get a picture together and found this tree with all of these holes worked into it. One fit my phone perfectly so we set it on a timer in the tree. As we were attempting to get the best picture, some forest rangers passed by and were making small talk with us, but my phone was STILL IN THE TREE. One of the men turned and noticed it and exclaimed! “Are you filming me!?” we stuttered no of course not and all laughed it off, but it was a little embarrassing to say the least!
After Great Falls I got to explore Nicole’s school, Towson University, which has a beautiful little campus, it is exactly how I pictured a small northeastern town with a school smack dab in the middle.
On Saturday I got to explore more of the city. We went to a plant nursery, which is one of my favorite things to do, it was a cool little shop called B. Willow. We also grabbed a bite at a venue that had multiple different food options, it is called R. House. It reminds me a lot of Armature Works here in Tampa. They also had a little market setup outside the venue with all sorts of different vendors. I had a blast at this naturally, since markets are my thriving grounds.
Later that night we went to dinner with Nicole’s family which was a blast. We went to a place called Bond Street Social and what you do is get a ton of sampler plates and share amongst the group. This was great because I got to try a little bit of everything and it fills you up quicker than having your own entree. After that we walked the city for a little, it was fleet week so you could see all the ships in the bay.
My last day was game day! The Baltimore Ravens were playing so we explored more of downtown and watched the game, only to end the day with Nicole’s family making me an authentic Greek meal, which was incredibly kind of them.
I had such a good time and I am grateful for all of my friends near and far that enable me to travel more smoothly, providing me with places to stay, and being incredible tour guides!
Thanks so much!
