The Important of Friendship
I want to take this opportunity to reflect on friendship. True friendship is such an amazing and beautiful thing. To find the people in this world who make you laugh, who make you feel, who truly care about you. Those people who let you be unequivocally you and that you can rely on, well it is truly an incredible thing. You may have a lot of people in this world who you call friends, but in the world of friendship not everyone will fit the description from above and you know the friends who do fit it. True friendship takes effort, effort that people are not always willing to give. Nothing speaks with more volume than the gift of time, time is the only thing we can give but can never get back. In the hustle and bustle of the modern world I think we, as friends, often get lost in the chaos that tends to be our lives and we do not reach out to our friends as often as we would like. I think this is especially true when distance is involved. With modern technology it has become so easy to communicate, but I think this ease of communication is often taken advantage of. It is so easy to give a friend a call, we all know this and yet we do not take advantage of it like we should. It is incredible to see what a 10 minutes call can do and it expresses that you have value and a vested interest in your friendship. A call is such a simple thing and it means so much more than the conversation that takes place. With true friendships a call shows that you really care and value the friendship. I had a recent experience with friendship that really brought all this to light for me.
I recently had two of my best friends travel all the way from Chicago to Arizona to visit me at school. It meant the world to me that they would carve the time out of their busy schedules at work and school in order to make the trip out to see and spend time with me. Sure it helps that it was below freezing back in Chicago and between 50 and 70 degrees by me in Arizona, but they would have made the trip regardless of the temperature difference. We had a blast and I got to show them around my stomping grounds for the past 4 years which was really special. The ability to share things that mean a lot to me with people who mean a lot is really important. It allows me to bring those close to me even closer and it is those kinds of things that build the friendships that last forever.
